Maria Tsoukalas is a Registered Psychologist and a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists and the Psychologists Association of Alberta. Having completed her graduate degree in New York, Maria has experience counselling individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds in the areas of: crisis counselling, solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, long-term therapy, as well as group workshops on stress management and coping with anxiety.
Maria has worked in a criminal forensic setting, providing therapy for incarcerated individuals and risk assessments for the Parole Board of Canada. She was formerly a researcher for a large-scale study of police officers and first responders at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and has presented her findings at nationally and internationally esteemed conferences. Maria is able to provide risk assessments, psycho-educational and career vocational assessments.
Presently, Maria provides counselling in the areas of: anxiety, sleep and insomnia, relationship issues, sexuality, stress and life transitions, as well as grief and loss.
Beyond her experience in the field of psychology, Maria is bilingual (Greek) and has a special understanding of the role culture and diversity play in everyday life, especially during times of conflict and stress. As a result, she approaches her work from a culturally sensitive manner. She is passionate about working with youth and adults in the LGBTQIA community. Evening and weekend appointments available
